Private Jungle Bungalows
US$40 low season; US$50 high season*
Sunset Sihanoukville bungalows are carved into a tranquil mountainside overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. The resort comprises 12 private bungalows (and one family room) set on 10,000 square meters of private jungle.
Each bungalow has its own entrance and private balcony with privacy shades. Most bungalows offer views of the surrounding jungle, but a couple offer sea views at no extra charge (ask for Bungalow #5). All have lots of windows and get lots of sunlight, but also have heavy blinds for those times when you want to sleep in.
The bungalows were built in 2011 from local sandstone and duongcham wood and covered with traditional Cambodia roof tiles, which are ubiquitous on pagodas and houses throughout the Kingdom.
Electricity outlets are 220v.
* High season runs from October to April. Breakfast for two is included. Without breakfast, the high-season rate is $40. During low season, the rate without breakfast is $32.
Set under the tranquil shadows of Wat Leu, the Sunset Sihanoukville hillside is tall, leafy jungle dotted with a hand-picked selection of local flora. Nearly 100 rosewood trees stretch across the property mixed with towering coconut palms and dozens of local hardwoods and fruit trees.
The broad leaves of the towering ch'teal and romduol trees provide a year-round canopy of cool jungle shade. The mango trees give fruit from February to April, the jackfruit trees all year. A small stream meanders across the resort's northern edge.
Our closest neighbors are the monks at Wat Leu.
The resort was designed by Sam Oeur and his wife, Soneary. In Sunset, the couple built their perfect weekend get-away, a quiet, pool-side retreat beneath the trees.
